Not a lot about the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is known, but according to director James Gunn, it might just end up being the best thing he’s ever made.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Gunn spoke about the Holiday Special, and called it “the greatest thing” he’s ever done in his life. That’s high praise for a man who’s already made some stellar movies, but according to Gunn, the special is loved by everyone that’s been a part of it so far.

“The Holiday Special is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Gunn said. “It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it, and it’s out pretty soon. it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”

While fans may not know too much about the upcoming Holiday Special, we do know that it will take place after the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film but before the third entry in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. We also know that it might be one of the last times we’ll see this current iteration of Guardians together, as Gunn has mentioned in the past that the superhero outfit will no longer be the same following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The space-traveling team was last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where they were joined by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor during the final moments of the film. Because of this, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars including Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan are set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
