Twenty years after its initial release, the 2002 Godzilla franchise entry Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla is finally set to reach U.S. theatres for the first time this November! The release is set to happen, appropriately, on Godzilla Day, which happens to be Thursday, November 3rd. Fathom Events is bringing Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla to 450 theatres across the United States, and Syfy Wire confirms the film will be “complete with English subtitles and a never before seen featurette direct from Japan. Fans will be greeted with an exclusive message from Keiji Ota, Toho International’s Chief Godzilla Officer.

Tickets are now available on FathomEvents.com, so check and see if Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla is going to be playing at a theatre near you.

Directed by Masaaki Tezuka from a screenplay written by Wataru Mimura, Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla has the following synopsis: A new Godzilla causes the JSDF to construct a cyborg countermeasure from the original monster’s remains. The beast’s restless soul is discovered to inhabit the machine as the pilot must learn to find value in her own life.

The film stars Yumiko Shaku, Shin Takuma, Kou Takasugi, Yuusuke Tomoi, Kumi Mizuno, and Akira Nakao.

Tezuka previously directed Godzilla vs. Megaguirus and went on to direct Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. Other than this film, Mimura’s Godzilla movie screenplay credits include Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, and Godzilla: Final Wars.

With a running time of just 88 minutes, Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla is a short and quick installment in the Godzilla series. I have described it as “basically three action sequences strung together with some sparse character work”. The monster action is the main focus in this one, which makes it fun to watch. I’m glad U.S. audiences are finally going to get the chance to see Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla on the big screen.
