Rumors have been swirling for some time now that Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Scream Queens) will be playing Cyclops in an upcoming X-Men film for Marvel Studios. As far as the actor knows, though, that won’t be happening at all.

Speaking to Variety recently, Powell shut down the rumors that he’d be appearing as the leader of the group. According to the actor, the star doesn’t even have any information to contact Marvel if he wanted to, so the rumors (which had been circulating since before San Diego Comic-Con 2022) have no credence.

“Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, “Dude, are you Cyclops?” No, I’m not,” said Powell. “Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.”

Of course, while Powell could just be playing coy on the matter, it doesn’t seem likely that Marvel Studios has made any concrete plans for the iconic mutant group as of now. However, things do seem to be heating up, especially with actor Giancarlo Esposito recently publicly stating that he would love to play Professor X in a film.

Just what, if any, role Powell gets to play in the MCU has yet to be seen, but it does seem like Marvel Studios is slowly leading up to fully introducing mutants into its world. However, recent reports from Cinema Sangha’s Devin Faraci suggest that Marvel may not be ready to officially announce the X-Men’s introduction until years down the line, so fans may have to wait a bit for more concrete confirmation.
