Full Moon has unveiled a trailer for The Primevals, a long-awaited epic that was a passion project for FX artist David Allen

A project that has been decades in the making, the most expensive film in the history of producer Charles Band‘s company Full Moon, the stop-motion epic The Primevals is finally ready to head out into the world – and as we previously reported, it’s going to have its long-awaited premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which is set to run from July 20th through August 9th. With those days quickly approaching, Band has unveiled a trailer for The Primevals, and you can check it out in the embed at the bottom of this article!

Band showed the trailer in the new episode of his Full Moon Universe show, and if you want to skip directly to the trailer, go to the 4:35 mark in the video embed.

The Primevals was a passion project for visual effects artist David Allen, who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes. He spent around twenty years thinking of and working on this sci-fi fantasy film. He first came up with the idea – a film that would combine live action with stop-motion animation to tell a story of time travel, Eskimos, yetis, robots, and giant lizards – in the 1960s or ’70s. Filming of the live action scenes were completed in 1994, and he was working on the special effects right up until he passed away from cancer at the age of 54 in 1999. Then the project sat dormant for almost another twenty years… until Charles Band and Allen’s longtime associate Chris Endicott (Avengers: Infinity War) were able to start putting the finishing touches on the film.

In this episode of Full Moon Universe, Band says he expects to send The Primevals to some more film festivals after Fantasia. Exact release details haven’t been worked out just yet, but he believes the movie will be available for fans to watch in their comfort of their own homes by this Halloween.

I find it very heartwarming that Band and Endicott were able to complete The Primevals so we can all see what Allen was working on for all those years. Judging by the trailer, the movie looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
