The Disney-owned cable network Freeform has pulled the plug on both Single Drunk Female and The Watchful Eye.

As confirmed by Variety, the comedy series Single Drunk Female has been canceled after two seasons on Freeform. Meanwhile, mystery thriller The Watchful Eye has been shut after just one season.

What is Single Drunk Female about?

Created by Simone Finch, Single Drunk Female premiered on Freeform in January 2022. Its second season wrapped up in May 2023. The show’s title is an obvious play on the Bridget Fonda-led 1992 erotic thriller film Single White Female.

Single Drunk Female starred Sofia Black-D’Elia as Samantha Fink, a 28-year-old alcoholic who is forced to move back in with her mother, Carol (Ally Sheedy), after hitting rock bottom. Season 2 found Samantha with a new lease on life and a year and a half of sobriety to her name. In addition to Black-D’Elia and Sheedy, the comedy starred Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington, Garrick Bernard, and Ian Gomez. Season 2 even featured a special guest appearance by ’80s icon Molly Ringwald.

What is The Watchful Eye about?

The Watchful Eye, meanwhile, was created by Julie Durk. The show hit Freeform in January 2023. Its first and only season concluded in May 2023. Mariel Molino starred as Elena Santos, a young woman with a checkered past who begins working as a live-in nanny for a wealthy family. Elena moves into the fabled Greybourne apartment building in Manhattan, quickly discovering a culture of dark secrets an ulterior motives. In addition to Molino, The Watchful Eye starred Warren Christie, Amy Acker, Jon Ecker, Aliyah Royale, Lex Lumpkin, Henry Joseph Samiri, and Kelly Bishop.

At the time of writing, Single Drunk Female and The Watchful Eye are both streaming on Hulu in their entirety. However, both shows are scheduled to be removed from the platform soon.
