Final Fantasy XVI takes place in the land of Valisthea, a kingdom on the verge of conflict due to a disease known as the Blight. The new trailer highlighted powerful forms used in battle by warriors of each faction. These are known as Eikons and factor heavily into the action RPG gameplay. Taking a page from recent Final Fantasy games, XVI‘s combat was shown to be real-time, and the gameplay itself will change based on which of the main protagonists are present for each battle.
In addition to Eikon seen in prior trailers, the Dominance trailer that debuted today revealed two new creatures. Titan and Garuda are tied to new characters Hugo Kupka and Benedikta Harman. Six Eikons were listed off in a montage at the end of the trailer, which equals up to the six factions that rule over Valisthea.
