Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, SXSW Festival

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves isn’t set to hit theaters for close to three months, but if you’re heading to South by Southwest (SXSW) in March, you’ll be able to see the fantasy adventure movie a little early.

SXSW announced today that Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will open the festival, which runs from March 10-19th. “We are thrilled to announce the first wave of our incredible lineup for SXSW 2023,” said Claudette Godfrey, VP Film & TV. “It’s an amazing collection of films, TV series and XR experiences that promise to inspire, entertain and challenge our audiences. We’re also proud to open with Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a raucous and engaging fantasy adventure, and look forward to welcoming everyone to Austin in March for what promises to be an unforgettable event.” The fantasy movie follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers who embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez,  Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant.

In addition to Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, some of the other headliners at SXSW include Evil Dead Rise, the latest installment of the Evil Dead franchise. Written and directed by Lee Cronin, the film tells the tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. Also headlining at the festival will be Flamin’ Hot, a film directed by Eva Longoria which tells the story of Richard Montañez, the Frito Lay janitor who channeled his Mexican American heritage and upbringing to turn Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into a snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global phenomenon, and Problemista, a film from Julio Torres, which follows an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream.

If you can’t catch Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves at SXSW, the film will be hitting theaters on March 31st.
