Drew Barrymore teases that Casey Becker could have survived the events of Scream when asked if there was a chance her character could return.
Drew Barrymore holds the distinction of being one of Ghostface’s very first kills in the Scream franchise. The surprising death of her character, Casey Becker, in the opening of the original movie is one of the more iconic moments in horror history, but could Drew Barrymore still return to Scream?
While chatting with Ross Matthews on her daytime TV talk show (via Entertainment Weekly), Drew Barrymore was asked by Ross about a potential return to the Scream franchise. “I asked you if maybe your character, maybe, survived,” Ross said. “You know, doctors can do amazing things! And you said, maybe there’s a chance she did survive. So, does this make you want to bring her back for Scream VII?”
“It’s funny. I’ve never thought of it this way, but I’m pretty sure a C-section is comparable to what happened to her,” Barrymore replied. “Like, literally. And I’m here! I’m fine! So, maybe Casey Becker will be okay.” The last time we saw Casey Becker, she was disembowelled and hanging from a tree, which makes a return… unlikely. However, Barrymore teased, “With good writing, you can make anything happen.“
As Scream VI recently became the highest-grossing entry in the entire franchise at the domestic box office, there’s little doubt that Scream VII will happen sooner or later. Our own JimmyO loved the sequel, calling it a massive surprise in his review. “It’s tense, scary, and fun, and I was happy to engage with the new players involved,” JimmyO wrote. “The filmmakers impressively take over where Kevin Williamson and the late, great Wes Craven finished off. It’s a pleasure to witness the meta-slasher series thrive once again. You will thoroughly enjoy the newest installment if you are a Scream fan. While the kills aren’t over the top per se, you’ll see a Ghostface get all sorts of brutal. Perhaps the most brutal in the series. Seriously, this time around, they take STAB to a whole new level. And yes, New York, New York is an excellent replacement for the quaint yet deadly Woodsboro. Scream VI is a bloody good delight.” You can check out the rest of JimmyO’s review right here.
Could you see Drew Barrymore returning to the Scream franchise or should her character remain dead?
