Director S.S. Rajamouli confirms that a follow-up to the Indian action film is in development

One of the year’s best movies, RRR, is gearing up for a sequel. Speaking with The Film Stage, the film’s director, S.S. Rajamouli, confirmed an RRR sequel is in development. According to Rajamouli, his father, V. Vijayendra Prasad, is working hard to make the follow-up bigger and better than the original.

“My father is the story writer for all my films. We discussed a bit about [‘RRR 2’] and he’s working on the story,” said Rajamouli. While it’s too early to disclose any details about the RRR sequel, it’s exciting to know another movie in the series is in the works.

You are missing out if you’re an action movie fan and have yet to experience RRR. The Telugu-language historical fiction epic is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The film follows real-life 1920s Indian freedom fighters Komaram Bheem (N.T. Rama Rao Jr., known as NTR Jr) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan). They join forces against British colonial overseers. The three-hour odyssey is a non-stop action extravaganza about friendship, tiger fights, forbidden love, and off-the-wall acrobatics that defy the law of gravity and logic. Once RRR kicks off, the film never stops being a spectacle of special effects, outrageous action, soul-lifting dance sequences, and celebrations of brotherly love.

“I’ve used the word franchise thinking, hoping that there would be another world of ‘RRR’ again,” said NTR Jr. “Sometimes [if] you just hope and you say a few words hoping it would happen, it will happen. It’s just a way of positive thinking, wanting for more.”

I could not be more excited about this news. RRR is one of the best action movies I’ve seen in a long time, and I can’t begin to imagine how a sequel will elevate the story and characters to the next level. Are you excited about Prasad digging into an RRR sequel? Let us know in the comments.
