DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes is getting its own animated feature film, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that the film is set to release early next year.

The film will star Meg Donnelly as Supergirl/Kara, Harry Shum Jr. as Brainiac 5, Darren Criss as Superman, Matt Bomer as The Flash, and Jensen Ackles as Batman (a role he previously voiced in The Long Halloween). The movie will be based on the fictional superhero team the Legion of Super-Heroes, a lesser-known group of comic book characters from DC’s extensive roster.
According to the report, the story of the film will center around Kara, still reeling from the loss of Krypton, as she struggles to adapt to her life on Earth. It’s there that Superman, her cousin, will help mentor her on what it means to be human, while also helping her leave their space-time to attend the Legion Academy, a school in the 31st century that houses its own mysteries to uncover.
Alongside the star-studded main cast, the film is also set to feature Cynthia Hamidi as Dawnstar, Gideon Adlon as Phantom Girl, Ely Henry as Bouncing Boy, Robbie Daymond as Timber Wolf & Brainiac 4, Yuri Lowenthal as Mon-El, Eric Lopez as Cosmic Boy & Chemical King, Darin De Paul as Brainiac & Solomon Grundy, Ben Diskin as Arms Fall off Boy & Brainiac 2, Victoria Grace as Shadow Lass, Jennifer Hale as Alura, Daisy Lightfoot as Triplicate Girl, and Zeno Robinson as Invisible Kid & Brainiac 3.

The Legion of Super-Heroes has been around for some time now, with Otto Binder and Al Plastino having created the team in 1958. Since then, the team hasn’t gotten a lot of love shone on them, but they have appeared in some big stories, including appearing in the DC Animated Universe films Superman and Justice League.
