City on a Hill, cancelled, Showtime

Showtime announced today that they have cancelled City on a Hill after three seasons. The crime drama starred Kevin Bacon as a veteran FBI agent and Aldis Hodge as an up-and-coming city prosecutor. Together, the pair worked together to clean up corruption in Boston.

City on a Hill concluded its successful run on Showtime with its Season 3 finale,” Showtime said in a statement. “We have had nothing but the best experience working with Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge and the entire cast and crew, led by showrunner Tom Fontana and fellow executive producers including Jennifer Todd and Jorge Zamacona. We offer our sincerest thanks to everyone.” The series was created by Chuck MacLean, who also executive produced alongside Tom Fontana, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Barry Levinson, and more. The third season of City on a Hill wrapped up in September, and THR hears that the choice to cancel the series was made some time ago.

It didn’t take long for Aldis Hodge to find a new show, as it was announced just this morning that he would star in the new Alex Cross series set up at Prime Video. Based on the novels by James Patterson, the Alex Cross series follows the titular character, a “detective and forensic psychologist who is uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify—and ultimately capture—the murderers. He is brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions. A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it.” Hodge was recently seen playing Alex Carter/Hawkman in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. As for Kevin Bacon, he has plenty of projects on his slate, including The Toxic Avenger reboot and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
