Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, new trailer

Close to twenty years after he was first introduced in Shrek 2, Puss in Boots is back. The swashbuckling feline voiced by the one and only Antonia Banderas even received his own spinoff movie back in 2011, but it’s taken this long for a sequel to the Puss in Boots movie to emerge. Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation have released a new trailer for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which provides a glimpse at Puss’ latest adventure.

With a fresh new animation style, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish finds Puss discovering that he’s used up eight of his nine lives. With just one life left, Puss decides to settle down as a regular cat and even finds a home with Mama Luna (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), who renames him Pickles. But it doesn’t take long for Puss’ enemies to track him down and he’s forced to team up with Perro, a cheerful therapy dog, and his former partner and nemesis, Kitty Softpaws.

In addition to Antonio Banderas, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also features the voices of Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws, Harvey Guillén as Perro, Florence Pugh as Goldilocks, John Mulaney as “Big” Jack Horner, Wagner Moura as the Big Bad Wolf, Olivia Colman as Mama Bear, Ray Winstone as Papa Bear, and Samson Kayo as Baby Bear.

The official synopsis for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish:

For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet. Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious PiB as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayek). In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be aided—against their better judgment—by a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perro (Harvey Guillén). Together, our trio of heroes will have to stay one step ahead of Goldilocks (Florence Pugh) and the Three Bears Crime Family, “Big” Jack Horner (John Mulaney) and terrifying bounty hunter, The Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura).

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will hit theaters on December 21, 2022. What did you think of the new Puss in Boots trailer?
