The Wrap reports that TikTok celebrity Bryce Hall has signed on to star in the TikTok-inspired horror film Skill House, which is set to be directed by genre regular Josh Stolberg. Stolberg is best known for co-writing such films as Sorority Row, Piranha 3D, Jigsaw, and Spiral, but he also has several directing credits to his name. His previous films include Kids in America, The Life Coach, Conception, Crawlspace, Feels So Good, and The Hungover Games.
Scripted by Stolberg, Skill House is
a dark satire of social media and influencer culture, exploring how far people will go for online fame.
The movie will be filmed at Sway House, a Bel Air mansion made famous by TikTok creators.
Skill House is being produced by Ryan Kavanaugh’s Proxima Studios, and will also be the first project to be listed on Kavanaugh’s Entertainment Stock Exchange site. The ESX is “designed to allow users to invest in film projects and trade in and out of a film’s potential upside.”
Stolberg had this to say about the project:
I’ve worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars…but my kids are more excited about this project than any other I’ve worked on. These social media personalities are the new Hollywood, and they are reinventing what it means to be a star. When a young kid from Maryland, like Bryce, with nothing but a cell phone and a ring light, can attract tens of millions of followers on Tik-Tok and Instagram, it evens the playing field for everyone. But there’s a dark side to this new entertainment landscape, and I’m excited to flip that rock over.”
Kavanaugh added,
This film intends to break the boundary between the short-form social media phenomenon and long-form content. Bryce is one of the most recognized and polarizing influencers with over 50 million followers and will certainly be a crossover star. The film digs deep into the human psyche and the new generation’s thirst for stardom, asking how far they would go? It will be bloody, it will be dark, and it will certainly be talked about.”
I’m not familiar with Bryce Hall, but I have enjoyed some of the movies Josh Stolberg has worked on, and I like the sound of a dark, bloody satire of social media and influencer culture. I’ll be giving Skill House a chance.
