Black Adam is flying in way under where even modest predictions had it this weekend with just a $25 million second weekend. In our predictions on Thursday, I must admit I have fat fingers and one of my sausages must have hit the five instead of the two when I predicted a $50 million second weekend, that is the only logical explanation for being that far off!
We can blame the Halloween weekend for the sluggish numbers as word of mouth for the Dwayne Johnson led film has been solid. The over 60% second weekend drop is in line with recent superhero films Thor: Love and Thunder (-67.7) and Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness (-67%) of course both of those films opened to well over $100 million. It isn’t all bad news though as this marks Dwayne Johnsons 18th movie to pass $100 million domestic.
Second place will belong to the George Clooney/ Julia Roberts romantic comedy Ticket To Paradise with an estimated $10.3 million, representing just a 37% decline as the film holds up quite well both domestically and internationally where it is already a massive hit with well over $100 million in its cash app.
Third place belongs to the new release horror film Prey For The Devil. This one has not impressed too many critics with just a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, however our own Iceman gave the film a solid 7/10 meaning that if the trailers impressed you at all, check it out, you may dig it! Right now theaters are flooded with horror films from the hit Smile (3 day projection of $5 million) to Halloween Ends (3 day projection of $3.7 million) and even the surprise hit Terrifier 2 (3 day projection of $1.87 million)
The expansion of the extremely well reviewed Till (including one from our own Chris Bumbray) is pulling in a solid $2.8 million this weekend. It should continue to play well throughout this awards season as people want to see what is surely to be the Oscar Nominated performance by Danielle Deadwyler.
It seems every weekend has a true surprise entering the top ten and this weekend that honor belongs to the Coldplay film Coldplay: Music of Spheres live which opened on 833 screens this weekend and is expected to finish the weekend with $1.38 million. Who knew Coldplay was still such a huge draw?!
The rest of the top ten is filled in with Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile in seventh place with a projected $2.65 weekend and The Woman King in tenth place with $1.05 million.
Other notable numbers this weekend are the expansion of Best Actress front runner Cate Blanchett’s Tár with a $1 million weekend and the Martin McDonagh film The Banshees of Inisherin with a $400,000 weekend.
