Bill Murray hated SNL’s ’90s-era “bad boys”

The Bad Boys of SNL, who were hired between 1990 and 1991 and brought some of the show’s most memorable sketches, ended up being some of the most successful post-Saturday Night Live players. But that doesn’t mean everyone loved them. Actor, animal and stapler Rob Schneider has revealed that SNL legend Bill Murray absolutely hated the crew.

On a recent episode of The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show, Rob Schneider recalled how the Murricane treated his cast when hosting. “He’s super nice to fans. He wasn’t very nice to us…He wasn’t very — he hated us on Saturday Night Live when he hosted. Absolutely hated us. I mean, seething.” The “us” he’s referring to is what became known as the Bad Boys of SNL, a group that included Schneider, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, David Spade, and Chris Rock.

According to Schneider, Bill Murray disliked Chris Farley in particular, which is really saying something considering, you know, Rob Schneider was right there. This apparently stems from Farley’s drug abuse and John Belushi admiration. “I don’t know exactly, but I want to believe that it’s because Chris thought it was cool to be Belushi, who [was] his friend who he saw die, that he thought it was cool to be that out of control. That’s my interpretation…”

Bill Murray also had a targeted disdain for Adam Sandler, whose childish gibberish was certainly as divisive as a style can get. However, Murray does seem to be cool with Chris Rock, who appeared in his 2015 A Very Murray Christmas special.

Rob Schneider’s claims come at an awfully convenient time, as Murray is the currently subject of numerous allegations of on-set misbehavior.

What did you think of the Bad Boys of SNL? Were Rob Schneider, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and company your style or was Bill Murray onto something? Let us know in the comments below!
