The first official Lawmen: Bass Reeves teaser trailer is here, giving fans their first look at David Oyelowo as a legendary law enforcement agent in the upcoming Paramount+ series.

What do we know about Lawmen: Bass Reeves?

The new Lawmen: Bass Reeves teaser trailer is extremely brief, but does feature a few action shots of Oyelowo as Reeves. In the trailer, Reeves can be seen arriving to a house in flames on horseback and taking part in an explosive gunfight. The clip ends with Oyelowo’s Reeves warning someone that he is Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves, and “your wicked days are done.”

Lawmen: Bass Reeves and is described as an anthology series that will have future installments that cover various iconic lawmen throughout history. Alongside Oyelowo in the starring role, the series will also feature Donald Sutherland, Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, and Demi Singleton. Dennis Quaid, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley will recur, with Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund set to guest star.

The series is set to “bring the legendary lawman of the wild west to life. Reeves, known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded,” according to its logline.

The series was originally announced two years ago, when David and Jessica Oyelowo signed an exclusive deal with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Studios to develop scripted and unscripted programs for the companies.
