Barry, season 4

With the third season of Barry concluding earlier this year, there have been rumours that the upcoming fourth season may be the last for the HBO series. While speaking with the Hollywood At Home with The Creative Coalition podcast, Anthony Carrigan, who plays NoHo Hank, confirmed that Barry season 4 will bring the series to a close.

During the podcast, Anthony Carrigan was asked if Barry season 4 would be the end of the series, with the actor replying, “Yeah.” The season 3 finale could have been the end of Barry, but Bill Hader told Vulture that he knew there was more to the story. “Well dying, the story’s over, and I thought there was more story,” Hader said. “There’s only so long a guy can get away with this. I know I feel watching shows sometimes, ‘They’re trying to keep the thing going and now it’s getting ridiculous to keep the thing going.’ And so, I think he would get caught. He’s not Jason Bourne or Walter White. He’s not a genius. He’s a very dumb guy. And it made sense, the idea of Gene Cousineau wanting justice for Janice and then getting it by the end, but he has to go through a transformation himself to get it.

HBO hasn’t officially confirmed that Barry season 4 will be the last, but several of the actors have guessed that will be the case. Henry Winkler told Variety at the Primetime Emmy Awards that co-creators Bill Hader and Alec Berg would “never try to stretch” the series, adding, “they don’t want to push it.” As a performer, he hopes that Barry will continue, if only so he can continue acting in it.

Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting,” reads the official description of Barry season 3. “But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.” You can check out a review of the third season from our own Alex Maidy right here.
