Arnold Schwarzenegger says that AI has transformed James Cameron’s The Terminator into a reality.

The rise of AI over the last year has been astounding, terrifying, and everything in between, but for Arnold Schwarzenegger, it’s the beginning of the future predicted in James Cameron’s The Terminator.

The Terminator imagined a future in which the artificial intelligence known as Skynet became self-aware and destroyed much of humanity. We’re not quite at that stage yet, but Arnold Schwarzenegger recently spoke of the movie’s AI prediction. “Today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go,” the actor said at An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger event in Los Angles. “And in this movie, in ‘Terminator,’ we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over…Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of Jim Cameron.

The actor credits this prediction to James Cameron. “He’s just such an extraordinary writer and he’s such an unbelievable director, this is again, one of those things that I wish I could take credit for this movie,” Schwarzenegger said. “I can only take credit of the character that I played and the way I played it. But I mean, he has created this character. He has written it so well, he’s written the movie so well, and that’s why he is, you know, the number one director in the world.

Arnold Schwarzenegger can currently be seen starring in FUBAR on Netflix. “When a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter (Monica Barbaro) learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA operatives for years, they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all,” reads the synopsis for the series. “Forced to team up as partners, the series tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action and humor.FUBAR has been a big hit for Netflix and they recently renewed the series for a second season.
