I could listen to Maya Rudolph say bubble bath all day long. Loot isn’t that series, but more Maya Rudolph is never a bad thing. Apple TV+ announced today that they’ve renewed Rudolph’s workplace comedy series Loot for season 2.
Created, written, and executive produced by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, Loot stars Maya Rudolph as Molly Novak, a billionaire who has a dream life, complete with private jets, a sprawling mansion, and a gigayacht. “When her husband of 20 years betrays her, she spirals publicly, becoming fuel for tabloid fodder,” reads the official synopsis. “She’s reaching rock bottom when she learns, to her surprise, that she has a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), who pleads with Molly to stop generating bad press. With her devoted assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) by her side, and with the help of Sofia and team — including mild-mannered accountant Arthur (Nat Faxon) and her optimistic, pop-culture-loving cousin Howard (Ron Funches) — Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Giving back to others might be what she needs to get back to herself.” In a statement, Apple TV’s head of programming Matt Cherniss said:
Thanks to Maya, Alan, Matt, and the entire incredibly talented “Loot” cast and creative team who have created a show filled with captivating and endearing characters, and hilarious and heartwarming moments throughout each episode. This show has captured the hearts of global audiences, and we can’t wait for season two.
Maya Rudolph can currently be heard lending her voice to a variety of characters (including Connie the Hormone Monstress) on Netflix’s Big Mouth as well as the spinoff, Human Resources. The sixth season of Big Mouth is expected to launch later this year with a seventh on the way. Human Resources has also been renewed for a second season. The first five episodes of the first season Loot are now streaming on Apple TV+, with the remaining five episodes dropping each Friday. Are you looking forward to Loot season 2?
