The Sticky: Margo Martindale and Chris Diamantopoulos will star in the maple syrup heist series in development at Amazon Prime Video.
To get the attention of any Canadian, just whisper maple syrup heist. It was announced last year that Jamie Lee Curtis would be executive producing The Sticky, a series inspired by the true story of The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, and Variety has now reported that the series will star Margo Martindale and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Created by Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, The Sticky is a half-hour comedy series revolving around Ruth Clarke (Martindale), “a tough, supremely competent middle-aged Canadian maple syrup farmer who’s had it with being hemmed in by the polite, bureaucratic conventions native to her country’s identity. Especially now that that very bureaucracy is threatening to take away everything she loves: Her farm, her comatose husband, and her right to freedom. With the help of Remy Bouchard, a local blockhead and Mike Byrne (Diamantopoulos), a low-level mobster, Ruth changes her fate—and transforms the future of her community with the theft of millions of dollars’ worth of maple syrup.” The real-life heist took place over a decade ago and involved the theft of over $18 million Canadian dollars worth of Quebec maple syrup, said to be one of the most valuable heists in Canadian history.
“This story, about an unassuming band of renegades who managed to pull off perhaps the largest heist in Canadian history, caught our attention immediately,” said The Sticky showrunners Brian Donovan, Ed Herro, and Kathryn Borel in a statement when the series was announced.”The characters, stakes—all were ripe for tapping (pun intended) for our fictional story. We’re thrilled that we have world-class partners on board to bring our vision for ‘The Sticky’ to life.” I never tire of Margo Martindale, so she’s a wonderful addition to a series revolving around the biggest maple syrup heist in Canadian history, as is Chris Diamantopoulos. Martindale will next be seen starring in Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear, which will hit theaters on February 24th. Chris Diamantopoulos will next be seen in Mrs. Davis, a sci-fi series starring Betty Gilpin as Simon, a nun who goes to battle against an all-powerful artificial intelligence. The peacock series, which also happens to feature Margo Martindale, will debut on April 20th.
