Sega is getting into the multiplayer first-person shooter game with Hyenas, a multi-team game set in zero-G arenas where players steal from the rich and give to their bank accounts. Developed by the team at Creative Assembly responsible for 2014’s Alien: Isolation, the colorful shooter had a full-on reveal as part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming. The new announcement trailer reveals the wacky tone the studio is going and possibly previews what players can expect when it comes out next year on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The titular Hyenas are space scallywags that players take control of when they log into each session. In teams of three, players will steal “pop culture merch” from wealthy Martian opportunists hoping to bank on nostalgia from those pining for a planet they left in the dust. The game’s style is described as more colorful than the typical post-apocalyptic shooter thanks to its “graphic novel art style.” This style puts it in line with other multiplayer games like Lawbreakers and Bleeding Edge. And like those titles, Hyenas will not be a free-to-play game.

Specific characters seen in the announce trailer include a Richard Nixon-mask wielding shotgunner with a deployable turret called The Pro and an astronaut with a Prey-esque foam gun called Commander Wright. Other characters and abilities will fall into familiar tropes, including stealth, offense, and hacking.

Eagle-eyed trailer viewers can spot plenty of references to Sega history in the merchandise the Hyenas are pursuing. Creative Assembly also promises references to other games like Fall Guys and League of Legends, making for a setup that seems prime for the type of multiversal crossover that’s all the rage right now.
