Early Edition, reboot, Alice Eve

Before Kyle Chandler was breaking hearts as Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights he was Gary Hobson on Early Edition. The fantasy comedy-drama series found Chandler playing a stockbroker who received the Chicago Sun-Times a day in advanced. Armed with knowledge from the future, Hobson tried to prevent tragedies from occurring. Early Edition is set to receive a reboot and Deadline has reported that Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness) has been tapped to star in the pilot.

The Early Edition reboot will find Alice Eve starring as Beth, an “ambitious but uncompromising journalist who starts receiving tomorrow’s newspaper today and finds herself in the complicated business of changing the news instead of reporting it.” Beth is also the executive producer of KSEA, a local Seattle TV news station but has been a journalist/investigative reported since she was a kid. “Beth is very focused on getting the story no matter what — which sometimes puts her at odds with her beloved mentor, Tommy, who believes that the most important thing about a story is the people and its human toll,” reads Deadline’s description. The new Early Edition will be written by Melissa Glenn, who will also executive produce the reboot along with DeVon Franklin and Bob Brush, who developed the original.

Alice Eve recently starring in Belgravia for Epix, an historical drama from Downton Abby creator Julian Fellowes. The series follows the Trenchard family as they ascend to London’s aristocratic society, Belgravia. However, secrets from the past threaten to emerge and jeopardize the family. Eve also recently wrapped Freelance starring John Cena and Alison Brie. The action-comedy centers on an ex-special forces operator who, desperate to escape his humdrum life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who is hoping to salvage her career by interviewing a dictator. Things go sideways when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape to the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, animals hunting them and each other.
