Guardians of the Galaxy, ALF, James Gunn

It’s been five years since the release of the last Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and although the characters have popped up in other movies, it’s just not the same without James Gunn at the helm. Production on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 recently wrapped and there’s sure to be plenty of Marvel Cinematic Universe references and cameos… but what of ALF?

Eagle-eyed Twitter users have noticed that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and ALF (yes, the alien star of the classic ’80s sitcom) have struck up a friendship on Twitter. This led to rumours that ALF would be making a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but the Melmacian has denied the claims.

James Gunn later pointed out that ALF had already made a cameo of sorts (in sticker form) in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

As strange as ALF making a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 might be, the character was once part of the Marvel universe. ALF had his very own Marvel comic series that lasted for four years. He was even included in The Evolutionary War crossover story that spanned through most Marvel annuals in 1988. I mention this because there have been frequent rumours that the High Evolutionary will be involved in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will of course feature the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff, but there are a few new additions to the cast as well. Will Poulter will be playing Adam Warlock, who was first teased in one of the post-credit scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) created an artificial being to help destroy the Guardians. Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji has also joined the cast as an extremely powerful and complex character who is still being kept under wraps.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023. What do you think? Will ALF make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy after all?
