After working together on the hit film Uncut Gems, Josh and Benny Safdie (better known as the Safdie Brothers) are once again set to work on a movie with Adam Sandler.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview, Sandler confirmed the news, which had been rumored since the beginning of the month. According to the actor, the directors are already hard at work on the film, and while nothing plot-related was revealed, Sandler did note that it’s going to be “exciting” and “different.”

“They’re working hard on it,” Sandler said. “Their work ethic is bananas. They’re always working, always writing, always thinking. I don’t know what I can tell you, but it’s gonna be very exciting. It’s different. But I don’t want them to ever say, ‘What the hell did you tell him that for?’ So I’ll just let them talk [about it].”

The reunion comes shortly after the release of Uncut Gems in 2019, but isn’t too surprising. During the lead-up to the release of Uncut Gems, the Safdie Brothers spoke about their love of Sandler, noting that the film was made for him at the time. Clearly, the love and respect now go both ways, as Sandler is once again ready to dive into a role with the talented duo.

The trio’s first collaboration, Uncut Gems, earned all three of them massive praise, with Sandler and the Safdies winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead and Best Director, respectively. The film was also a slight commercial success, earning $50 million at the box office, which makes it A24’s highest-grossing film domestically.
