The Safdie brothers and Adam Sandler were seemingly an odd pairing for Uncut Gems, but it resulted in one of 2019’s most well-regarded films. And now it seems as though the three are collaborating for another project.

According to IndieWire VP Executive Editor Eric Kohn, his sources said that “Sandler and the Safdies are already cooking up another project.” He did not elaborate on exactly what that meant, so it’s unclear what they working on, if anything. The Safdies are currently working with Nathan Fielder on a spooky comedy for Showtime called The Curse starring Emma Stone.

This would be their third collaboration after Uncut Gems and Goldman v Silverman, the latter of which is a short film they shot during their spare time making the former. Benny and Josh Safdie have spoken about their respect for Sandler in the past, saying they dreamed of working with him ever since seeing Sandler’s most famous ’90s hits like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. They even sent missives to him in 2011 for what would be Uncut Gems, but did not hear back.
