To be known as the nicest guy in Hollywood and be playing a sour, bitter, out-spoken grump in a movie, you’d have to be a hell of an actor. And Tom Hanks happens to be both. The academy award-winning actor is starring in a new comedy called A Man Called Otto based on the book, A Man Called Ove written by Swedish author, Fredrick Bachman. Sony Pictures just dropped the trailer for the new comedy.

The official synopsis reads,

“Based on the comical and moving #1 New York Times bestseller, A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower who is very set in his ways. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside-down. Experience a funny, heartwarming story about how some families come from the most unexpected places.”

The movie is directed by Marc Foster, director of films such as Monster’s Ball and Finding Neverland, and is written by Finding Neverland scribe, David Magee. The comedy is produced by Hanks’ company Playtone which will credit Hanks, his wife Rita Wilson, Gary Goetzman, and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro. Foster, Magee, and Renée Wolfe are on board as executive producers.

Joining Hanks in the cast will be Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller, Cameron Britton, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

A Man Called Otto is set to release in theaters in Los Angeles and New York on December 25 and then in wide release on January 13, 2023.
