Glass Onion, theaters, Knives Out 2

If you were hoping to see Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in theaters, you just might be in luck! It was announced today that Netflix has come to an agreement with AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres and Regal Cinemas to screen the Knives Out sequel a month before it hits the streaming service.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will open in approximately 600 theaters from November 23-29, with the film also playing in additional locations in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand. “We’re excited to offer fans an exclusive sneak preview of Rian’s incredible film,” Netflix film boss Scott Stuber said in a statement. “Given the excitement surrounding the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we hope fans will enjoy this special theatrical event in celebration of the film’s global debut on Netflix in December.” Director Rian Johnson added, “I’m over the moon that Netflix has worked with AMC, Regal and Cinemark to get Glass Onion in theaters for this one of a kind sneak preview.

The Knives Out sequel once again finds Daniel Craig returning as Detective Benoit Blanc. When someone turns up dead on the private Greek island of tech billionaire Miles Bron, Blanc is ready to tackle the case. In addition to Daniel Craig, the all-star cast includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista. After shelling out $469 million for two Knives Out sequels, it’s no surprise that Netflix wants to give Glass Onion its time to shine in theaters.

AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron said the theatrical release deal is a good thing for everyone involved. “This announcement of our first-ever agreement with Netflix is significant for AMC and for movie lovers around the world,” Aron said. “As we have often said, we believe that both theatrical exhibitors and streamers can continue to co-exist successfully. Beyond that, though, it has been our desire that we find a way to crack the code and synergistically work together. We look forward to Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and we will endeavor to continue working with Netflix on future compelling titles that excite and engage theatrical audiences.” After it hits theaters next month, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will hit Netflix on December 23rd.
