Peri Gilpin to return as Roz Doyle in the upcoming Frasier sequel series for the Paramount+ streaming service.

Frasier, sequel series, Roz, Peri Gilpin

Another familiar face will be joining Dr. Frasier Crane in Boston. It’s been reported that Peri Gilpin will reprise her role of Roz Doyle for the upcoming Frasier sequel series on Paramount+.

Roz Doyle was Frasier’s producer at KACL in the previous series, and when we last saw her, she had been promoted to station manager. It’s not known where life has taken Roz in the last two decades, but she will only appear in one episode of the Frasier sequel series. Peri Gilpin isn’t the only member of the Frasier family returning for the sequel, as Bebe Neuwirth will also guest-star as Lilith, Frasier’s ex-wife and and mother of Freddy.

After returning to Boston, Dr. Frasier Crane will “be faced with new challenges, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.” In addition to Kelsey Grammer, the series will also star Jack Cutmore-Scott has Frasier’s son, Freddy, who is described as “charming, handsome, and a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps—dropping out of college to become a fireman—and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life. If they can overcome past differences, Freddy and Frasier might finally have a chance to repair old wounds.” The series also stars Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor, Alan; Toks Olagundoye as Alan’s colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia; Jess Salguerio as Freddy’s roommate, Eve; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David, son of Niles and Daphne.

James Burrows is helming the first two episodes of the Frasier sequel series. Burrows co-created Cheers and directed over 230 episodes of the series. He also directed 32 episodes of Frasier, including the pilot, so it’s only fitting that he would return to help Frasier start the next chapter of his life.

If the new series is successful, I’d imagine that subsequent seasons might just include a few more familiar characters popping in for a visit. Which Cheers/Frasier characters would you most like to revisit?
