Last week at the Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences Sci-Tech Awards, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu teased the potential return of Shang-Chi.

Speaking to People, Liu described what its like to work on Marvel movies with so many different actors and actresses. The star then teased that there may be another superhero team-up featuring his character “sooner” than fans think.

“I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the performers that play them, so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game,” Liu stated. “I think that’s what excites me the most as a performer, [and] also as a fan. And who knows, they might see something sooner than you think. We’ll see.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham. Though there’s been no official word on a Shang-Chi sequel or when exactly the character will next appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Liu’s hint suggests his next appearance may not be too far off.
