Malcolm in the Middle

The Malcolm in the Middle reboot may be closer than ever, with none other than Hal himself, Bryan Cranston, saying a reunion movie could be the most likely possibility to get the cast back together.

Speaking with E! News, Bryan Cranston said, “There was some talk about the possibility of doing, like, a reunion movie of Malcolm in the Middle. We had such a great family on that, and I certainly would be open to that if there was a good idea that came up–like, ‘Oh, that would be fantastic to explore what happened to this family 20 years later.’ I can’t believe it’s already that, but that would be fun to do.”

Malcolm in the Middle went off the air in 2006 after a seven-season, 151-episode run, winning seven Emmy Awards along the way, including two for Cloris Leachman’s guest appearances. Lead Jane Kaczmarek was nominated for every season, while Bryan Cranston earned three nods and Frankie Muniz just one. Perhaps the coolest win of all came when They Might Be Giants took home a Grammy for the theme song, proving they were the boss once and for all.

Last year, Frankie Muniz also hinted at a possibility of a Malcolm in the Middle reunion, pointing to his on-screen dad. “I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent…But I don’t know–we’ll see what happens.” Now that Muniz is a full-time NASCAR driver, one wonders if he would find time to step in front of the camera to reprise his role.

Around that same time, series creator Linwood Boomer stated, “We’re talking about it…We all think it would be fun if we get the right idea. Honestly, it would be going much faster if everyone wasn’t so annoying.” It’s that asthmatic Stevie that’s taking so long, isn’t it?

What do you think? Would a Malcolm in the Middle reboot be met with positive reception? Or has its time passed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
