Black Adam easter eggs

As expected, Black Adam came in first place this weekend with an estimated $27.7 million representing a 59% decline from last weekend. While that percent drop is better than other recent comic book films such as Thor: Love and Thunder (-67.7) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (-67%) it is a slightly larger drop than the recent DC behemoth The Batman (-50.4%). Our projections for this one were way off, as we thought it would easily clear $45 million. No dice. There is no doubt the fact that Halloween falls on a Monday this year played into the less than stellar numbers. The last time that happened was in 2016 when the Tom Hanks led threequel Inferno opened in second place with $14.8 million to the second weekend of Boo! A Madea Halloween with $17.2 million.

With a $200 million budget before marketing costs, Black Adam has an uphill battle to go before it can claim any sort of profitability. The good news is that the film has just secured its Chinese theatrical release (November 11) where it it should post strong numbers as comic book films tend to do big business there.

Coming in second place is Ticket To Paradise with $10 million representing just a 39% drop from last weekend. The film may not have had the strongest reviews, but audiences seem to be enjoying the pairing of stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts in a lighthearted feel good romantic comedy. I know there has been talk about how the Rom-Com is dead, but these numbers prove that when you have two leads with great chemistry audiences will gladly fork over their hard earned money to spend two hours with them.

A new trailer has been released for the exorcism film Prey for the Devil, from the director of The Last Exorcism and writer of Halloween H20

Third place belongs to the horror film Prey For The Devil with $7.02 million. Critics didn’t find too much to enjoy with this one, calling it just a series of cliche’s strung together to form a barely cohesive story. Of course, film is subjective as our own review for the film found enough enjoyment out of it to give it a 7/10. The market is currently flooded with horror films for audiences to choose and they seem to be favoring some surprising choices as Smile continues its dominant run with an additional $5.05 million added to its box office for a $92.3 million total and the independent Terrifier 2 continues to shock both audiences and box office analysts alike with reports that it is one of the goriest films ever made while it continues to slay in the top ten by adding $1.8 million to its total. While Halloween Ends manages to stick around in the top five another week with $3.8 million and a rather disappointing running total of $60.3 million, given this is the supposed final chapter of one of the most enduring horror franchises of all time.

The expansion of the well reviewed film Till sees it make its first appearance in the top ten with a reported weekend take of $2.8 million, a whopping 673% increase over last weekend. You can expect this film to have strong legs throughout the awards season as many predict it will feature heavily at this years Oscars (especially in the Best Actress category). Another Oscar hopeful entered the top ten this week with the Cate Blanchett fronted Tár taking in $1.02 million representing a 104% increase over last week’s numbers.

The Woman King, Viola Davis, trailer, movie trailer, official trailer, coming soon

The remainder of the top ten were filled out with Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile in sixth place with $2.8 million and The Woman King in ninth place with $1.1 million.
