According to Deadline, Narnia vet Anna Popplewell has officially been tapped to star opposite Taissa Farmiga in New Line Cinema’s upcoming The Nun sequel, which is currently in production.

Popplewell is set to portray the role of a widowed school teacher in France named Kate. Additionally, The Princess actress Katelyn Rose Downey has also been cast in the horror drama.

The Nun 2 is being directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La LloronaThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, based on Akela Cooper’s latest draft. The upcoming sequel features the return of Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as the titular demon/Valak. They will be joined by new cast member Euphoria actress Storm Reid.

“1956 — France. A priest is murdered,” reads the logline. “An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit The Nun follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force Valak — The Demon Nun.”

The film is produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, with Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear serving as executive producers. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on September 8, 2023.

The Nun starred Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons. The film was a box office hit with a worldwide gross of over $360 million, making it the highest-grossing film of the franchise.
