After years of being an ad-free experience, streaming giant Netflix is finally unveiling an ad-supported plan for consumers to select, with the option set to arrive next month.

The plan, “Netflix Basic With Ads,” will launch in the United States on November 3, 2022, and will be priced at $6.99 per month. The plan will be available in 12 countries when it launches, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S.

The new plan slots it at $3 cheaper than Netflix’s normal Basic plan (which is currently $9.99/month), and will also see both plans get a bit of a boost in the form of HD content. Previously, the normal Basic plan did not support HD viewing, but now both the Basic With Ads and Basic plans will support video quality up to 720p HD.

While the new plan will be the new cheapest option to enjoy Netflix’s content, not all of that content will be available to those who subscribe. The ad-supported plan will not be including the full Netflix content catalog, due to what Netflix chief operating officer Greg Peters said was due to “licensing restrictions” (via Variety). Depending on the country, Netflix Basic With Ads will not have anywhere from 5% to 10% of Netflix’s catalog available, although it’s unknown exactly what will and won’t be available yet.

According to Peters, the new tier “represents an exciting opportunity for advertisers — the chance to reach a diverse audience, including younger viewers who increasingly don’t watch linear TV, in a premium environment with a seamless, high-resolution ads experience.”
