Despite Mario’s apparent keister shortage, fans have been eagerly awaiting the first trailer for the Super Mario Bros movie. That moment has arrived. Nintendo and Illumination released the first teaser trailer for the movie during a special Nintendo Direct presentation. Just yesterday, Chris Pratt teased that fans should “get ready to be blown away” by the trailer. Well, were you blown away?

The Super Mario Bros movie features the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Micahel Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Aaron Horvath and Micahel Jelenic took the helm from a script by Matthew Fogel.

I was definitely curious to hear Chris Pratt’s Mario voice for the first time, especially as the actor had claimed that it would be unlike anything we’ve heard in the Mario franchise before. “I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear,” Pratt said. “It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.” So what’s the verdict? I’d say Mario sounds pretty much like Chris Pratt for the most part. As for the teaser trailer on a whole, I’ve got to say it looks better than I expected, and those little penguins are absolutely wonderful.

The Super Marios Bros movie will hit theaters on April 7, 2023. What did you think of the Super Mario Bros teaser trailer?
