MultiVersus is all about Warner Bros.-themed chaos, but it sounds like the platform fighter won’t be affected by the Warner Bros. chaos outside of the game. The title’s director explained as much on Twitter, which came right after the delay for MultiVersus‘ first season.

The game’s official Twitter account announced that its first season would be pushed from August 9 to some unknown date in the future and more would be unveiled “very soon.” August 9 was also supposed to mark the day Morty from Rick and Morty was going to enter the game. Rick was set to join later during that first season, too, meaning the delay of the first season has also subsequently pushed the release of these two DLC characters. The current season will extend to August 15, but it’s not clear if that is an indication of Season 1’s new launch date.

While it doesn’t appear to be a huge delay that implies that there are big issues, Warner Bros. has been going through some grand changes with its merger. However, according to Game Director Tony Huynh, the game will be “unaffected” by the Discovery and Warner Bros. merger. Player First Games is an independent game studio not owned by Warner Bros., but some probably assumed that the Warner Bros.-heavy game might be one of the many aspects currently being shaken up. After all, a 2021 report mentioned that NetherRealm Studios’ next game was indirectly impacted by Warner Bros. drama, as the report claimed that the team was focusing on Mortal Kombat 12 instead of Injustice 3 because of the hesitancy around developing a game with Warner Bros. characters in times of uncertainty.

It seems as though MultiVersus will keep trucking along and might even see new reveals this weekend at Evo, the biggest annual fighting game tournament. An alleged roster leak also pointed to a ton of characters coming down the road, so, if accurate, the team might be able to stick with the game long enough to see them come to fruition.
