Thunderbolts movie, Marvel

Deadline has reported that the long-rumoured Thunderbolts movie is moving forward. It’s been revealed that Marvel Studios have tapped Jake Schreier to direct the Thunderbolts movie from a script by Black Widow‘s Eric Pearson.

We don’t know all that much about the Thunderbolts movie yet, but Deadline’s Justin Kroll said that Marvel is looking at the project as their version of The Suicide Squad, as it will revolve around a group of villains who go on missions for the government. Development is still in the early stages, but Kroll says that characters such as Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, U.S. Agent, Baron Zemo, The Abomination, Ghost, and The Winter Soldier could show up. The report also mentions that Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross may be involved, but as William Hurt died earlier this year, the role would likely be recast. Sources told Deadline that Marvel “has been in touch with certain individuals who already are part of the MCU to make sure to keep an opening in their schedules for next summer when it shoots.

Florence Pugh has played Yelena Belova in Black Widow and Hawkeye; Wyatt Russell has played U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier; Daniel Brühl has played Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier; Olga Kurylenko has played Taskmaster in Black Widow; Tim Roth has played The Abomination in The Incredible Hulk, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the upcoming She-Hulk: Attorney at Law; Hannah John-Kamen played Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp; and Sebastian Stan has played Bucky/The Winter Soldier in all three Captain America movies, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Jake Schreier started out directing music videos for artists such as Kayne West, Chance the Rapper, Cashmere Cat, and more but has also helmed episodes of Shameless, Lodge 49, Kidding, Dave, and Brand New Cherry Flavor. Schreier also directed Robot and Frank and Paper Towns. Deadline states that Schreier’s presentation for the Thunderbolts movie “blew away” the Marvel executives and ultimately got him the gig.

Who do you hope to see in the Thunderbolts movie?
