The first reactions to The Northman were revealed earlier today but if you’re hungry for a little more from Robert Eggers’ Viking masterpiece, Focus Features has released a new clip from the upcoming film. Check that out above!

The Northman clip finds Alexander Skarsgård’s character sneaking up on a villain and leading a brutal raid on the inhabitants. The clip sadly cuts off right before the main battle starts, but it’s a wonderful little appetizer to a film a lot of us are really looking forward to watching. The action-filled epic stars Alexander Skarsgård as a young Viking prince on a quest to avenge his father’s murder. In addition to Skarsgård, The Northman also stars Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe. As well as directing the film, Robert Eggers also co-wrote the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught a screening of The Northman (after throwing axes with Alexander Skarsgård) in London and was blown away, saying that it’s an “absolute masterpiece” and “probably the best historical epic since Kingdom of Heaven. A truly unique journey into madness and revenge Viking-style! A must-see in theaters — the sound and visual demand it.” While it’s always good to keep expectations in check after these types of glowing first reactions, I’ve got high hopes for The Northman, especially after Robert Eggers hit it out of the park with The Witch and The Lighthouse.

The Northman will hit theaters on April 22nd.
