The Bikeriders director Jeff Nichols feels he wasn’t the “right fit” to take on the upcoming A Quiet Place prequel.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, per World of Reel, Nichols discussed why he stepped away from directing A Quiet Place: Day One, an upcoming prequel spin-off that’s currently scheduled to release in 2024.

“I dabbled with…John Krasinski called me about maybe doing A Quiet Place prequel, but luckily, that didn’t work out,” Nichols said. “I just wasn’t the right fit, you know?…[Paramount] took it over, and I’m sure they’re doing something really special with it because Michael Sarnoski took it over, and that guy’s a really great filmmaker, but stuff like that wasn’t the right fit.”

Nichols was tapped to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One, which is based on a story by Krasinski, in November 2020 but dropped out in October 2021. Sarnoski, who directed 2021’s Pig starring Nicholas Cage, was announced as his replacement in January 2022.

A Quiet Place Part III is also currently in the works

Directed, written, and produced by Krasinski, A Quiet Place debuted in theaters in April 2018. Krasinski also starred in the film alongside his wife, Emily Blunt. A sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, followed in 2021, while A Quiet Place Part III is currently in the works.

Not much is yet known about the plot for A Quiet Place: Day One; although, it was previously announced Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Denis O’Hare star in the film. Djimon Hounsou, who appeared in A Quiet Place Part II, is also returning for the prequel. Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller all serve as producers.

Nichol’s The Bikeriders, meanwhile, releases in the United States on December 1, 2023. The film stars Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Fast, Norman Reedus, and Boyds Holbrook.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently scheduled to release theatrically on March 8, 2024.
