Sega is continuing to adapt its older video game franchises into films. According to a new report, the company is working with Amazon Studios and basketball player Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media to bring the ToeJam & Earl series to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that Amazon and Unanimous are also working with Story Kitchen for this film, which was just attached to the Sifu movie. Hotel Transylvania 4 writers Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo are penning the script. Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson and Dan Jevons are producing alongside Curry and Erick Peyton from Unanimous. Mike Goldberg from Story Kitchen is also co-producing. Story Kitchen’s Timothy I. Stevenson and Unanimous’s Jenelle Lindsay are executive producing with ToeJam & Earl creators Mark Voorsanger and Greg Johnson.
ToeJam & Earl began in 1991 on the Genesis and received three sequels in 1993, 2002, and 2019. The series is known for its funky style and unique atmosphere.
Sega has been going quite hard into the film space as of late. After the success of the two Sonic movies, the company is pursuing movies based on Streets of Rage, Space Channel 5, and Comix Zone, in addition to another Sonic sequel.
