Netflix showed off the first look at its upcoming action film The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez, which is set for a May 2023 release date window.

The first look at the upcoming film showed off Lopez, who will play a deadly female assassin, as she is forced out of hiding to protect her daughter. It will also star Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

The film is written by Misha Green (Lovecraft Country) with revisions by Andrea Berloff (Straight Otta Compton). Lopez will also be serving as a producer along with Elaine Goldsmith Thomas through their Nuyorican Productions. Green and Benny Medina are also set as producers along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. Catherine Hagedorn has also boarded the project as an executive producer and Courtney Baxter will serve as an associate producer.

This project marks Lopez’s latest collaboration with Netflix, which has been working on the film adaptation of The Cipher centering around Lopez as an FBI agent. The award-winning singer’s other film credits include AnacondaMaid in ManhattanEnoughMonster-in-LawSelena, and Hustlers. The latter two earned her two Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
