The domestic box office was nothing to write home about this week, but that’s probably the last time we’ll be able to say that for some time. In other words, enjoy the calm before the storm that is the summer movie season, which kicks off this week with Marvel’s highly anticipated Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, followed by the likes of Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Evolution, Lightyear and more!

Anyways, this weekend saw Universal’s The Bad Guys cling to the top spot with $16.1 million (-33%) to bring its domestic total to $44.4 million, per Deadline. Sonic 2 claimed $11.35 million over the weekend, enough to retain its No. 2 position on the chart and bring its tally to $160.9M. Fantastic Beasts: the Secrets of Dumbledore earned $8.3 million in Week 3 for $79.55 million total, while The Northman collected $6.3 million (-49%) in its sophomore frame, raising its sum to $22.8 million.

The only wide release this weekend was the Liam Neeson action thriller Memory, which accrued just $3.1 million from 2,555 theaters. That’s about on par with Neeson’s other Open Road films, The Marksman ($3.1 million) and Honest Thief ($4.1 million).
