The upcoming Sony’s Spider-Man Universe film Madame Web now has a release date as it is set for a 2023 release in theaters.

Sony Pictures announced that Madame Web will come out on July 7, 2023. That is one month after the new release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), so Sony is betting on a busy summer season next year. The film is set to star Dakota Johnson as the titular character alongside Sydney Sweeney in a yet-to-be-revealed role.

While not the most mainstream Spider-Man character, Madame Web first appeared in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in 1980 from writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. The character is a blind psychic that has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man due to her ties to “The Great Web,” a multiversal construct that ties all “Spider” characters together across the multiverse. Seeing how Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced the multiverse concept, we could see that continue in the Madame Web film.

It’s also been confirmed that S.J. Clarkson will direct the film. Clarkson is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Clarkson worked on both Jessica Jones and The Defenders for Netflix. The script will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who wrote Morbius starring Jared Leto.
