Robert Pattinson slams crazy body standards for me, saying that he ate nothing but potatoes for two weeks in an attempt to lose weight.
Actors, particularly those playing superheroes, face immense pressure to look a certain way, and Robert Pattinson is done with it. While speaking with ES Magazine, Robert Pattinson trashed the “insidious” body standards men face in Hollywood, before revealing that he once ate nothing but potatoes for two weeks.
“Yeah, it’s crazy,” Pattinson said. “And it’s very, very easy to fall into that pattern as well, even if you’re just watching your calorie intake, it’s extraordinarily addictive — and you don’t quite realise how insidious it is until it’s too late.” While Robert Pattinson said that he’s never struggled with body image himself, he has tried his share of questionable weight-loss methods, including eating nothing but potatoes “I have basically tried every fad you can think of, everything except consistency,” the actor added. “I once ate nothing but potatoes for two weeks, as a detox. Just boiled potatoes and Himalayan pink salt. Apparently it’s a cleanse… you definitely lose weight. And I tried to do keto once. I was like, ‘Oh, there’s a diet where you just eat charcuterie boards and cheese all the time?’ But I didn’t realise that you can’t have beer as it completely defeats the purpose.” I do love potatoes in all their forms but… that’s a bit much.
After being cast as Batman, Robert Pattinson famously said that he was barely doing anything to get into shape, which he later said “came back to haunt me” in an interview with MovieMaker. Pattinson told ES that he “got in so much trouble for saying that I don’t work out, even from my trainer, who was like, ‘Why would you say that?’“
Robert Pattinson is in the middle of shooting Mickey 17, a new film by Parasite director Bong Joon-ho. Based on the novel by Edward Ashton, the film finds Pattinson playing a disposable employee on a space expedition. When one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. “It’s with Parasite director Bong Joon-ho and it’s like nothing I’ve ever done before,” Pattinson said. “The movie is so crazy, it’s a completely different style of working.” In addition to Robert Pattinson, Mickey 17 also stars Steven Yeun (Minari), Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Toni Collette (Hereditary), and Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Endgame). The movie is being directed, written, and produced by Bong Joon-ho. Mickey 17 is slated to hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
