Nicholas Hoult, Emma Mackey and more are expected to test for the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
While we still have several movies from the old DCEU ahead of us, James Gunn will officially launch the new DC Universe with Superman: Legacy. With pre-production well underway, it’s time to decide who should step into the cape and tights as our new Superman. Deadline has revealed the handful of actors who are expected to test for Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy.
Insiders tell Deadline that the in-person tests will take place over Father’s Day weekend or the Monday or Tuesday after. Nicholas Hoult (The Great), David Corenswet (Pearl), and Tom Brittney (Grantchester) are expected to test for Clark Kent, while Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) are testing for Lois Lane. Deadline notes that some of the test deals for Superman: Legacy are still being negotiated, but they understand that these are the actors set to audition.
James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.” While fans were obviously disappointed when Henry Cavill was dismissed from the role so soon after his brief return in Black Adam, I am excited for someone new to take on the character and to see what James Gunn can do with the Man of Steel. Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
Do any of the actors set to test for Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy strike your interest? If not, who do you see playing the iconic characters in the new movie?
