The new image comes courtesy of Empire Magazine and highlights Namor, who has been inspired by the culture and history of Mesoamerica. Unlike the comics, which see Namor as the ruler of Atlantis, the upcoming film will see Namor as the ruler of Talocan, which was also drawn from real cultures instead of Greek mythology.

In an interview with Empire, Huerta spoke about the changes to the character and how the decision of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa to reveal the existence of Wakanda to the world affected Namor and his people.
“That decision puts Talocan in jeopardy,” Huerta said. “And Talocan has to take action to protect themselves.” Huerta also confirmed what rumors had been saying for some time, and revealed that Namor will, in fact, be a mutant in the upcoming film.
“In the film, Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death,” reads the synopsis. “As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia and Everett Ross and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”

Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Florence Kasumba as Ayo.
Joining them are franchise newcomers Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) as Namor, Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) as Aneka, Mabel Cadena as Namora, and Alex Livinalli as Attuma.
