After his mysterious departure following season two, the real reason F. Murray Abraham left Mythic Quest has been revealed.
When it was announced in April of last year that F. Murray Abraham would be leaving Apple TV+’s comedy series Mythic Quest after two seasons, no official reason was given. Now, it has come out that Abraham was fired due to multiple complaints of sexual misconduct.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Lionsgate (one of the show’s production companies) wrote, “We take allegations of misconduct seriously and investigate them thoroughly. As a matter of corporate policy, we do not discuss our personnel actions.” As such, season three of Mythic Quest, which concluded this past January, went on without Abraham, who played the head writer for the titular MMORPG. For those unfamiliar with the series, the official synopsis reads: “Meet the team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all time. But in a workplace focused on building worlds, molding heroes, and creating legends, the most hard-fought battles don’t occur in the game—they happen in the office.”
At least one of the aforementioned incidents reportedly involved Abraham and an unnamed actress on Mythic Quest, with the Oscar-winning actor told to stay away from her. After that, another occurrence was brought up to Rob McElhenney, who stars and is one of the show’s creators, alongside Charlie Day and Megan Ganz. From there, the now-83-year-old Abraham, was shown the door.
Over the past decade, Abraham has been a consistent presence on television, turning up on shows like Disney+’s Moon Knight (earning an Emmy nomination for voicing Khonshu), the Channel 4 series Chimerica) and, most notably, on season two of HBO’s The White Lotus, playing the sexually driven father to Michael Imperioli’s character.
Reviews for Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest have been strong overall, with Rotten Tomatoes scores at 90%, 100% and 94% for the first three seasons, respectively. It has already been renewed for a fourth season. The series has earned praise for its technicals, including cinematography, production design and sound.
