Following last month’s announcement of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade, Bandai Namco has now confirmed when the enhanced ports will be coming out. The Super Saiyan version will release on January 13, 2023 worldwide and will be a free upgrade for owners of the last-gen versions.

The new iteration of the game will feature improved graphics, a 60 frames per second frame rate, and an offline version of Card Warriors. This in-game card game that was added to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot through a free post-launch update was previously only playable online. Save data will be transferrable between the two generations, but those who want to move their PS4 save will have to reinstall the PS4 version, download the latest patch, and upload the save from the main menu. It’s unclear if previously earned trophies will automatically unlock on PS5 when using a PS4 save.
As was previously stated, those who own Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot already can redeem the upgrade for free from either the PlayStation or Xbox stores, but those looking to play the game for the first time will have one of three editions to choose from, including:
- Standard Edition – This includes the base Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game.
- Deluxe Edition (digital-only; not available for pre-order) – This includes the base Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game, a Deluxe Cooking item, and Season Pass 1 (two original story episodes and one new story arc).
- Legendary Edition (digital-only; not available for pre-order) – This includes the base Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game, a Deluxe Cooking item, a Legendary Cooking item, Season Pass 1, and Season Pass 2 (three new story arcs, including the upcoming downloadable content Bardock – Alone Against Fate).
The new version of the game was announced last month alongside a brand-new season pass, which will consist of three additional story downloadable content, the first of which is titled Additional Scenario: -Bardock- Alone Against Fate. This DLC will focus on content from the Bardock: Father of Goku television special, and will introduce a “complete reproduction” of the story, complete with a Frieza boss battle and interaction with Frieza Force members and other Saiyans.
