jennifer lawrence, bad blood

Jennifer Lawrence is returning to her independent film roots with her upcoming character drama, Causeway. She is currently following it up by filming No Hard Feelings to be released next year. However, the Academy Award-winning actress has recently decided to back out of a role she’s been tapped to play in an upcoming Apple Original.

Deadline recently reported that Lawrence was cast to play Elizabeth Holmes in a film about the entrepreneur from her Don’t Look Up director, Adam McKay, titled Bad Blood which was to have been released through the AppleTV+ streaming service. However, Lawrence now sees no point in depicting her story in this film anymore after watching Amanda Seyfried portray the founder of Theranos in the Hulu Original movie, The Dropout. Lawrence explained that she lost interest in playing the role, “I thought she was terrific. I was like, ‘Yeah, we don’t need to redo that.’ She did it.”

It’s not unusual for multiple projects to depict the same subject in a short time span. There have been multiple Steve Jobs movies that tell different interpretations of his life story with Jobs and Steve Jobs. Back in the 90s, there were a couple of big-budget westerns about the famous historical figure Wyatt Earp with Tombstone and Wyatt Earp. However, it’s not usual for an actor to be so impressed with another actor’s portrayal that they view it as definitive enough not to be told again.

Deadline was unable to get Apple Original Films to comment on the matter. In addition, it’s not yet known if Lawrence’s leaving the project had canceled it altogether. Seyfried won the Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Limited Series or Movie in September for her role in The Dropout. She beat out fellow nominees Toni Collette for The Staircase, Julia Garner for Inventing Anna, Lily James for Pam & Tommy, Sarah Paulson Impeachment: American Crime Story, and Margaret Qualley for Maid.
