Karl Urban teases a new character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan in photo from the set of The Boys season 4.

The Boys, season 4, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Karl Urban

After working with Eric Kripke on Supernatural, it was only a matter of time before Jeffrey Dean Morgan joined up with The Boys. Production on the fourth season of the Prime Video superhero series is now complete, and Karl Urban took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion… as well as share a look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan and himself on the set.

Oi!” Karl Urban wrote in the caption of the Instagram post. “That’s a picture wrap on season 4 [of The Boys]. Massive thank-you to our phenomenal crew & cast. Love you guys! I’m not allowed to post any photos from set…soooo here’s a snap of [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] & moi on the set of a Cadillac commercial…” Urban added that The Boys season 4 will be “coming soon…ish” to Prime Video. Unfortunately, the sneak peek doesn’t exactly shed any light on who Jeffrey Dean Morgan is playing on The Boys, but judging by his suit and tie, he’s probably not playing a Supe.

Eric Kripke has been trying to get Jeffrey Dean Morgan on The Boys for some time. There was even a chance he could have appeared last season, but at the end of the day, it didn’t work out. Thankfully, the schedules aligned for Morgan to join the cast for the new season.

In addition to another season of The Boys, we’ve also got a spinoff series on the way as well. Gen V takes place “in America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (or supes) that is run by Vought International.” It will explore the lives of “hormonal, competitive supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.

Eric Kripke has previously teased that Gen V would include a few crossovers with The Boys, both in terms of characters like Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy as well as events. “There’s definitely crossover, and we’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in Season 3 hand off to the first season in Varsity,” Kripke said. “Like there’s a presidential campaign happening in the background of that season, and there’s certain things that are happening at that school that are both in reaction to Season 3 of The Boys. There’s Soldier Boy, etcetera, but also some new storylines that are happening in that season of the spinoff that we have to pick up and take into Season 4 of the show.” We don’t have an official release date for Gen V yet, but the spinoff series is expected to premiere on Prime Video sometime this year.
