Big Hero 6 director Chris Williams is back to helm his most epic animated film yet with Netflix’s The Sea Beast. After directing 2008’s Bolt and co-directing Disney’s Moana, Williams is taking his tremendous talents to the high seas for an animated adventure about found family, rewriting history, and mythical monsters capable of untold destruction.
We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Chris about The Sea Beast. During our chat, we discovered the inspiration behind the movie and discussed how Chris became obsessed with oceanic terrors that haunt the hearts and minds of sailors worldwide. We also discuss the filming process and the challenges of shooting epic action amid crashing waves and splintering ships.
Chris has incredible energy, and we wish we had more time to discuss the film. We could have talked for hours about the wonders of animation, horrors that lurk in the depths, and the stop-motion hero Ray Harryhausen. We enjoyed The Sea Beast immensely and thank Chris for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with us. You can read our full review for The Sea Beast here. We highly recommend checking the movie out when it surfaces on Netflix on July 8, 2022.
